Edmonton Eskimos season preview 2011
The 2011 season in Igloo land is one of mass changes.
New head coach in the form of Kavis Reed, new offensive co-coordinator in the form of Marcus Crandell and over 25 player changes to the roster. GM Eric Tillman has a tough job ahead of him in his first full year leading Edmonton, of course the starting QB job is Ricky Ray’s as always but #2 guy Kerry Joseph has been shaky in training camp and in the pre season and I would not be surprised if for whatever reason Joseph doesn’t step up when needed (ex: injuries, mop late in games in blowouts) we could see rookie Matt Nichols move on up and get the number 2 gig.
Esks Canadian draft picks WR Nate Coehoorn and OL Scott Mitchell are young bucks that the scouts have been raving over as two guys that will shine in the CFL, Coehoorn had a great camp and has made a pretty smooth transition from CIS ball to the CFL, Mitchell out of Rice is still very green but hopefully he develops nicely to prevent Ricky Ray from being on his back more than Rip Van Winkle. TJ Hill becomes the leader of the defense now playing in the secondary and Damon Duval is the main go to guy for the kicking duties? Has your head stop spinning at the amount of changes to this ball club? If it hasn't don't worry it should by the 3rd or 4th game, at least that's what most doctors tell me.
If this club can get things clicking they could finish at 9-9 and see the post season for the first time since 2009 and it begins for real on July 3rd vs Saskatchewan.
That's all for now I'm Avry and I'm out!
