1st place Eskimos sounds sweeter every week! That’s right the Eskimos have stayed undefeated by… defeating the Lions 33-17.
The Quarterbacks:
Now I'm not going to say Travis Lulay was bad, but when I went to look up his final stats for this article, they literally don't have anything there. Not even his name. It's almost like the league was embarrassed to have him playing as a starter. (Ok, he wasn't THAT bad, but it took him until the 2nd quarter to grab a first down.)
They have now fixed it (Thanks for ruining my bit!) so here are the real, misleading stats:
- 2 TD's
- 313 yards
Here are the stats that realistically represent his game:
- 2 INT's
- 56% Completion%
He was over throwing receiver's like crazy and without Geroy Simon having a great game, would have looked even worse (Darian Durant worse).
Ricky Ray on the other hand has actually shown this season that he actually CAN throw the ball down the field. WHAT A CONCEPT! He has been one of the major reasons Edmonton is currently without a loss.
- 2 TD's
- 320 yards
- 73% Completion rating
- No INT's yet this season
- 49 yards rushing
The Running-backs
I think Stamps RB Jon Cornish put it best on twitter:
"The Esks learned a good lesson. In the CFL, if you run the ball and commit to it, the passing game will open up."
Jerome Messam has been a huge addition to the Esks offense this season. Even though he only had 52 yards this game compared to last weeks monster performance, he did his job keeping the Lions "D" honest.
Meanwhile the Lions ran the ball a grand total of ...8 times. The Eskimos ran it 31 times with 7 different people.
That's how they won the game. They stayed committed to the run.
The Rec's
Stamps was the show for Edmonton, Simon was the show for B.C.. What else is new?
How about Marcus Henry adding 72 yards for the home team? That's new.
Defense
Either the Esks defense was a wall or Travis Lulay REALLY sucked. I'll go with the ladder.
Final Words
Don't worry B.C., your still playing a little bit better than the Riders, and that will get you a playoff spot in this league.
Esks, you have a real test next week against the Stamps, we will find out if this is for real or not.
